TED is here in Kuala Lumpur!!

TED?? Who is TED you might wonder.. Well, TED is not a celebrity, not a politician, not my family members nor my friends! I have just across to TED a few months back, and after knowing “him” for a short while, “he” has manage to inspire me tremendously!! I keep diving into it and eager to know “him” more!

So what is TED exactly?! Haha.. Let me try my best to explain it to you.

It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader to include Education, Videography, Psychology, Humanity and so much more! They bring together many different disciplines of speakers to share cutting edge ideology on the topics mentioned above.

I have started out my journey with TED with the TOP 20 Most Watched TEDtalks!! Check them out here! From the likes of Sir Ken Robinson, Hans Rosling to Stephen Hawking! You will certainly regret if you did not check them out! The doze of inspiration that i got from those talks literally overwhelmed me and it was such an uplifting experience!!

Here are some of the Very Inspiring and Most Popular TED Talks:

1) Sir Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity (2006): 8,660,010 views

2) Pattie Maes and Pranav Mistry demo SixthSense (2009): 6,731,153

3) Hans Rosling shows the best stats you’ve ever seen (2006): 3,954,776

Then look no further anymore!! As TED will be here in Malaysia! YES! In the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur and it is called TEDxKL! The local version of TED! There is a list of World Class Speakers waiting to meet you there and blow your mind off!

TEDxKL is happening on 14th of July 2012. The theme is inspired by TED Speaker Tiffany Shlain’s talk in last years TED Women. TEDxKL 2012’s theme “Interdependence” seek to explore how every single entity, no matter how distinct or conflicted they may be, plays a role in each other’s survival, development, progress or change.

Let me introduce one of the keynote speaker that you will be meeting in this coming TEDxKLDerek Sivers. Derek founded CD Baby in 1998, which went on to become the largest seller of independent music online, generating $100mill in sales for 150,000 musicians. In 2008, Derek sold the company for $22mill, giving the proceeds to a charitable trust for music education. He is a frequent speaker at TED Conferences, with his videos attracting more than 5 million views.

Here’s another one from our Local Legend – Yasmind Ahmad! This is her speech way back in 2009. I have been a Huge Fan of her works! Her film has always been controversial and provocative as well. Unfortunately, she has now left us and her Legacy behind.

Yasmin Ahmad (July 1, 1958 – July 25, 2009) was a critically-acclaimed multi-award winning film director, writer and scriptwriter from Malaysia and was also the executive creative director at Leo Burnett Kuala Lumpur. Her television commercials and films are well-known in Malaysia for their humour, heart and love that crosses cross-cultural barriers, in particular her ads for Petronas, the national oil and gas company. Her works have won multiple awards both within Malaysia and internationally.

I strongly encourage anyone who has an urge to learn and gain more knowledge to NOT miss this conference! Regardless whether you are a student, educator, CEO, manager, executive, housewife, retiree or just about anybody! This conference is definitely for you!
