There is a man with unclean spirit – Evil spirit in the midst of the assembly, Jesus cast it out simply by saying :” Be quiet, and come out of him!” Jesus portrayed sense of authority and power here. People there are amazed and start to question who is HE. He became famous throughout the region of Galilee.

Preaching in Galilee

Jesus woke up early next morning and went to a quiet place to pray. Here, HE shows the need of prayer for sustained spiritual effectiveness. The disciples search for HIM and tell HIM that many are looking for HIM. But HE said to them, ” Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose i have come forth.” Jesus refuses to let His agenda dictated by the demand of people. He knows his purpose very well and He wants to follow the plan. If He keeps stopping by the people in town for healing and etc, He may not be able to continue His journey to other towns for preaching.

A leper is someone who is infected by some sort of skin disease called “Leprosy”, and people during that time will do whatever that is possible to avoid the them, they often being excluded by the society. One day a leper came to Jesus and ask Him to cleanse him. Jesus did so and immediately the leprosy left him. Jesus warn him strictly that he should not go and tell anybody about this incident, but go to the priest and offer his cleansing with those things that Moses commanded (refer to Leveticus 14). However, the leper did not listen to what Jesus said, instead he go and spread the news! Jesus purpose of preaching in the next town was frustrated by the disobedience of the leper. Jesus’s fame as a Healer is becoming a hindrance to His preaching mission.
